Essure

Now offering Essure non-surgical permanent contraception at our Denver Stapleton Health Center.

The Essure procedure does not require any cutting into the body. Instead, one of our physicians places small, flexible micro-inserts through the body's natural pathways (e.g. vagina, cervix and uterus) into your fallopian tubes. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis without general anesthesia, and most women resume their normal activities within one day.

During thethree months following the Essure procedure, your body and the micro-inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you must continue using another form of birth control.

Planned Parenthood will give you a referral to have a special imaging test three months after the Essure procedure to confirm that both fallopian tubes are fully blocked. This imaging test is absolutely necessary to confirm your Essure procedure was successful for permanent birth control. Once this imaging test confirms your fallopian tubes are completely blocked, you can rely on Essure for permanent birth control. This imaging test is done on an outpatient basis by a trained radiologist at an imaging center or hospital.

Because Essure is a permanent, non-reversible birth control method, you should be sure that you do not want any more children in the future.

Unlike birth control pills, patches, rings and some forms of IUDs, Essure does not contain hormones to alter your natural menstrual cycle. Your periods should more or less continue in their natural state.

Fee for Service
We accept insurance, traditional Medicaid, and Medicaid HMOs. Patients without health insurance can obtain Essure for $2,500. Additional costs are associated with the follow-up imaging described above.
