The Legacy Circle is comprised of those who have indicated that they are leaving a bequest to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest or those who have set up a Life Income Fund.
If you are interested in naming PPPSW in your will, you can do so in one of two ways.
First, you can establish a bequest of a particular dollar amount or asset. The language for this type of provision is:
"I give, bequeath, and devise (dollar amount or description of gift) to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest or its successor, now or formerly in the City of San Diego, 1075 Camino del Rio South, in the state of California, to be used for its general purposes."
Or, you can give all or part of the property remaining in your estate after debts, expenses, and specific bequests are paid. Such provisions can be made as follows:
"I give, bequeath, and devise (all, or ______ percent of) the rest, residue, and remainder of the property, both real and personal, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest or its successor, now or formerly in the City of San Diego, 1075 Camino del Rio South, in the state of California, to be used for its general purposes."
In addition to leaving Planned Parenthood in your estate or trust, there are other ways to make a gift while also earning income.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between the donor and Planned Parenthood. The donor transfers property, cash or appreciated securities in exchange for a fixed dollar payment for life, or for the life of a second person, if desired. A portion of the income will be free from federal income tax. A minimum gift of $5,000 and minimum beneficiary age of 50 are required for a single-life immediate annuity and the gift annuity payout rate is determined by your age. For example, the current annuity rate for an individual who is 74 years old is 6.4 percent.
Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable remainder trust can also offer significant tax benefits and income opportunities. This type of gift can be excellent for a variety of assets you may hold, but most often for highly appreciated securities and debt-free real estate. Charitable remainder trusts allow a donor to retain income from the trust for life or for a fixed term (and for the life of the donor's spouse, if you choose) after which the property in the trust goes to PPPSW. A minimum gift of $100,000 is required to establish a charitable remainder trust.
