The Peer Ambassador Program is a yearlong, application-based program available to high school-aged youth in Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Peer Ambassadors advocate for and educate on sexual and reproductive health and rights, providing young people with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to lead impactful conversations in their schools and communities, while also providing linkages to care.
One of our Peer Ambassadors in Orange County recognized the need for access to menstrual products and took it upon herself to host a menstrual product drive at her school over a period of two weeks. During that time, she collected 20+ boxes of tampons, pads, and panty liners, which she then donated to Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino County's Community Education and Outreach to support their Here Comes Puberty Program, ensuring that the young people participating in the workshop have access to menstrual products.
Hosting this drive also provided the Peer Ambassador with an opportunity to educate her peers while normalizing conversations about periods at school, and simultaneously supporting young people in the community. We are immensely grateful for her advocacy and support of young people.
If you know a high school-aged youth who may be interested in learning more about opportunities to get involved, there are a few more high school-aged trainings happening soon. They can learn more or register here. Applications for the Peer Ambassador program for the next school year will be opening in April 2024.
