The NH Board of Pharmacy acted swiftly and unanimously today to renew the long-standing authority of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) to dispense contraception and other medications under a limited retail drug distribution license at its 6 New Hampshire health centers.  PPNNE provides life-saving cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of STIs, breast health services, and sexual health information to more than 16,000 women, men and teens in New Hampshire each year. "Earlier today, after a comprehensive license renewal process, the Board of Pharmacy acted unanimously to continue the dispensing authority we have had at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England for more than 20 years," said Jennifer Frizzell, Senior Policy Advisor.

Over the course of the last 18 months, politically-motivated groups in alliance with out of state special interests have been working to restrict access to birth control, cancer screenings, breast exams and other preventive health services at Planned Parenthood health centers in New Hampshire. In addition to lobbying for these outcomes before the Executive Council and the state legislature, the NH Right to Life has filed repeated complaints with the NH Pharmacy Board attempting to revoke PPNNE's pharmacy licenses and interfere with women's access to high-quality, affordable health care, including prescription medications. "We appreciate that the Board was fair and thoughtful in evaluating the merits of our application and they were not distracted by the outside pressure groups seeking to politicize the decision and limit access to women's health and family planning services. The Board's decision affirms our full compliance with state pharmacy statutes and rules and ensures that the needs of our patients will not be disrupted," concluded Frizzell.
