BE A VOLUNTEER
Sexual Assault Services of PPNCNY needs volunteers to serve as Certified Rape Crisis Counselors (CRCCs) for the 24 hour Sexual Assault hotline and accompaniment services. Sexual Assault Services welcomes mature applicants 18 years of age or older. We encourage participation of men as well as women in our program. No prior training or experience is required - just a desire to help victims of sexual assault.

The Sexual Assault CRCC volunteer program assures personal support and advocacy for victims and significant others of sexual assault and violence, no matter what form of sexual violence has occurred. Staff members and trained volunteer advocates support victims by listening to their needs, referring to community resources and building coping skills.  We assist victims over the phone, in person at the hospital, police stations or at court.  The level of participation in our program is the volunteer's decision.  We do our best to work with the volunteer's availability and comfort level.

HOW TO GET STARTED
Ready to get started on being a Certified Rape Crisis Counselor? Please contact the Regional Director of Community Engagement 518.561.0605 ext. 125, or fill out an online application. Once your application has been reviewed, a pre-training interview will be scheduled. This provides you with the opportunity to explore the program with the Regional Director of Community Engagement and ask any questions that you may have. Once the interview process has been completed and you have been offered a volunteer opportunity, you will be scheduled to attend a CRCC training program.

Volunteering can fit into your busy lifestyle. Our program allows volunteers to be a part of our mission and maintain balance within their personal life. Our volunteers are very important to us. SAS of PPNCNY thanks you for your interest in becoming a member of our program.

TRAINING
In order for our volunteer CRCCs to be well-informed and ready to meet the needs of our clients, CRCC volunteers are required to complete a 30-hour training program. Participation in the program requires a pre-training interview and a commitment by the participant to volunteer after hours to provide 8 or 16 hour hotline coverage and/or accompaniment services.

The volunteer CRCC training program is held several times a year and is held in alternating locations within Clinton and Franklin counties.
