Planned Parenthood of Nassau County Raises Funds for Health Care and Education at Annual Gala

Hempstead, NY—On Friday, May 4, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) held its Cinco de Mayo gala at the Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage State Park. Two dedicated volunteers, Ronnie Lavine and Ellen Waldman, were honored at the event, which attracted 295 friends and supporters and helped raise over $200,000.

“It was a wonderful night. Our guests came together to pay tribute to these outstanding women, and enjoy a fabulous selection of live and silent auction packages while dining and dancing the night away to a rousing Mariachi band.” said JoAnn D. Smith, PPNC’s President & CEO.

Ms. Lavine and Ms. Waldman were honored with the Margaret Sanger Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the health and well-being of the people in our community. Ms. Lavine, a resident of Glen Cove who has volunteered as a counselor in PPNC’s health centers for the past four years, not only provides patients with compassionate support, but lends her time and talents to many of PPNC’s fundraising and advocacy endeavors. Ms. Waldman, who lives in Laurel Hollow, first became involved with PPNC by helping to develop a comprehensive parent/child communication curriculum and is now also instrumental in fundraising and advocacy efforts.

Funds raised at the gala will help provide the 40,000 women, men and teens in Nassau County who rely on Planned Parenthood annually with essential preventive health care and comprehensive sexuality education programs.
