Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan has been awarded funding to provide the evidence-based Safer Choices and Be Proud! Be Responsible! curricula through the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI) of the Michigan Department of Community Health. Planned Parenthood’s Pregnancy Prevention Program (P5) is a comprehensive pregnancy prevention program that targets youth between the ages of 13 and 18. The goal of the program is to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy in Michigan.

P5 programming promotes personal respect, self awareness, and responsibility, and builds skills for dealing with peer pressure in a way that is age, gender, and culturally relevant through 8 to 10 hours of direct programming per youth to help participants acquire and practice specific skills such as

  • communication
  • negotiation
  • refusal
  • decision making
  • resistance to peer/social pressure.

Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan has also been awarded funding to provide the evidence-based Be Proud! Be Responsible! curriculum through the Taking Pride in Prevention (TPIP) initiative of the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Both TPPI and TPIP activities include youth programming, community advisory councils, community awareness activities, parent/adult/caregiver education, media campaigns and educational and promotional items.

If you work with a group who might be interested in receiving either of these programs in the Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Benton Harbor, Detroit, Flint, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, or Ypsilanti areas, or if you would like more information, call (734) 929-9075. You can also find additional information on TPPI at the Michigan Department of Community Health website.

The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative is supported in part by funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health's Taking Pride in Prevention Program, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families' Personal Responsibility Education Program.
