Washington, D.C. – ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar and Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (PPMW) celebrate International Women’s Day with “A Wild Night: The Story of Basandere,” an evening of ciders, cocktails and women’s health initiatives on Thursday, March 8th from 7:00-9:00 PM at the ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar (300 Florida Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001).
Founded with inspiration from Basque Country and a passion for cider, ANXO brings culinary and beverage delights to the District in a unique setting.
’A Wild Night’ features Basandere, or ‘The Wild Woman,’ a protector of nature in Basque mythology. In conjunction with International Women’s Day, PPMW and ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar hope to bring people together to lift up the DC community in support of women all over the world.
Members of PPMW’s Developing Leader Program, a 9-month program designed to train the next generation of leaders in the reproductive rights movement, will help execute the event, which will feature women’s health initiatives like PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). PrEP is a once-daily pill taken to prevent your risk of contracting HIV by 90%.
“On International Women’s Day, it’s essential that we highlight women’s reproductive health,” PPMW President and CEO Laura Meyers said. “D.C. has one of the highest rates of HIV in the country, and women of color are especially at risk for contracting HIV here. By spreading the word about PrEP, we’re hoping to reduce D.C. women’s risks.”
The event will highlight female cider makers, distillers and wine makers. In addition to products by the glass, the event will feature a female-produced cider flight and a special cocktail highlighting products distilled by women. 10% of sales from 7-9pm of products made or owned by women in the industry will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.
All donations made during this event will benefit Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.’S 501(c)3 organization. Donations can be made here: https://app.mobilecause.com/form/DgC8jA or by texting “ANXO” to 41-444.
