Establishes a Legacy Campaign for Health Education Honoring Esther H. Carpenter

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Friends of Planned Parenthood of Maryland – Anne Arundel County (Friends of PPM – AACo.) are celebrating 40 years of caring and compassion at an anniversary benefit Sunday, October 4, 5-7 p.m. at Quiet Waters Park Blue Heron Center.  Organizers will honor the legacy of Esther H. Carpenter, who volunteered for four decades with Planned Parenthood of Maryland.  Carpenter, 94, died March 30, 2008.

“In addition to celebrating 40 years, we have chosen to honor Mrs. Carpenter by establishing the Esther H. Carpenter Legacy Education Campaign,” said Dr. Eleanor Perfetto, event co-chair.  “Mrs. Carpenter worked tirelessly for 40 years to ensure safe and affordable healthcare, and was a dedicated advocate for health education.  This campaign will reach those in need by providing valuable and supportive education at the group or individual patient level.”

“Planned Parenthood continues to champion the rights of all people of all ages to stay healthy.  From pregnancy and HIV testing to prenatal care and helping to ensure every child is born wanted and healthy,” said event co-chair, Marcia Marshall.  “This anniversary benefit will celebrate community healthcare without compromise.”

In addition to the tribute to Carpenter, Friends of PPM – AACo. will offer a special recognition to 40 Community Champions from Anne Arundel County who represent the best and brightest in the fields of: healthcare, education, business and civic leadership.

The 40th anniversary benefit will be a dazzling affair featuring tapas and a world tour of sparkling wines. Oreo, a jazz trio whose musicians have performed with Joe Byrd and have had a 10-year continuous gig at Rams Head, will perform. Tickets are $40; VIP tickets are $80 and include an exclusive reception beginning at 4 p.m. with a sneak preview of the silent auction. To purchase tickets: call 410-576-2150 or online at www.plannedparenthood.org/maryland.
