Baltimore, MD – Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM) is excited to announce the addition of two new Leadership Team members. Joining us are: David E. Hale, Esq. as the Vice President for External Relations, and Eric Shapiro as the Vice President of Finance.

As VP for External Relations, David Hale will lead PPM's communications, public affairs, and development efforts, including media and new media strategies, marketing, web, fundraising, donor relations, special events, and help craft the organization's public policy agenda.

"As Planned Parenthood of Maryland continues to reach and serve more young women and families across our state, adding someone to our team with David's skills and experience is critical," said PPM President and CEO Jenny Black. "David will ensure that our growth is supported by the strategic partnerships we need, while engaging all of those whose leadership is so critical to the work we do. David's demonstrated passion for those we serve can only add to our vision," she continued.

Also joining PPM is Eric Shapiro, who will manage the organization's financial management and IT infrastructure, including strategic positioning for health reform readiness. "I could not be more excited to add Eric's wealth of experience and skills to the PPM team," said Black. "Someone with Eric's vision, leadership, and industry knowledge is paramount to crafting a responsible and sustainable plan for growing our affiliate in an increasingly complex and dynamic healthcare market. Eric will be a key strategist for the future of Planned Parenthood of Maryland," she added.

Hale is a civil rights attorney by training, graduating from Washington University's School of Law in St. Louis. Before joining Planned Parenthood of Maryland, David served as Director of Development and Communications for the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty in Washington, DC, and, prior to that, as Vice President of Development and Communications for the American Association of People with Disabilities, the nation's largest cross-disability membership organization. Hale serves as a consultant to the Washington, DC Center for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community, and teaches at the University of Maryland, University College.

Shapiro comes to Planned Parenthood of Maryland from Total Health Care (THC), a group of highly respected FQHC's (Federally Qualified Health Centers) that operate in Baltimore, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. Before that, Shapiro served as Finance Director for St. Agnes Healthcare. Shapiro received his BBA from James Madison University in Virginia, and lives with his wife and son.

"David and Eric represent a new and exciting time at PPM, and their arrival is an indicator of the potential of our affiliate to strengthen our work in providing high quality, affordable health care to the people of Maryland for many decades to come," stated Ferrier Stillman, Esq., Chair of the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood of Maryland.
