Planned Parenthood Mar Monte Opens a New Health Center in the City of San Mateo, Drops Bid to Open Health Center in Redwood City
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) is pleased to announce the opening of a new health center in the city of San Mateo.
The center will provide much-needed preventive services such as breast- and cervical-cancer screenings, family planning, prenatal care and primary care for adults and children. The Health Plan of San Mateo and the San Mateo County Health System are in strong support of the opening of the PPMM site in San Mateo to address the unmet need for preventive and primary care in this community. Currently, the health center is open part-time and offers a more limited selection of services focused on contraception, well-woman exams and testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STI).
The new center will also be a source of educational resources for the community, providing services to help families plan their pregnancies and tools for families to increase communication about sexual health. PPMM also plans to bring youth development services to the area, such as its successful Teen Success program that helps teen mothers maintain their family size and complete their education.
After many months of working with Redwood City officials, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte will not be pursuing a permit to open a health center at 2890 El Camino Real. We want to thank the local community which has extended a warm welcome and championed the opening of a PPMM health center in the area. We maintain our strong commitment to meeting the unmet health care and educational needs there and are actively searching for another site nearby in a hospitable jurisdiction.
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is dedicated to providing high quality health care for all individuals, families and communities. We appreciate the opportunities to work with the people of San Mateo County to provide these services.
