CHICAGO - Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) offers a reaction to the most recent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on Mifepristone, one of the two medications most commonly used in medication abortion. The FDA and Danco now have up to 90 days to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the Fifth Circuit’s decision.

In spite of today's ruling, there have been no changes in access to Mifepristone, which remains FDA approved, safe, and legal. PPIL remains committed to providing essential reproductive care including medication and procedural abortion. PPIL is aware of the ongoing legal landscape and will continue to monitor any changes.

Attributed to Jennifer Welch, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois

“Medication abortion remains safe, effective, and legal in Illinois. Creating restrictions does not stop people from having abortions. Instead, it creates unnecessary obstacles to care. This ruling is yet another politically-motivated attack to confuse millions of people trying to access essential sexual and reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) consistently works to ensure our patients can access the full range of abortion options, including medication abortion at all of our 16 health care centers and via telehealth.”
