Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies
Due to the significant economic impact of the COVID-19 global health crisis, as well as a recent loss of grant funding for Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies, the program is being suspended as of April 18, 2020.
We acknowledge the reality that the suspension of Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies has a direct impact on families in Trumbull and Mahoning counties, and we are working directly with our clients and community partners in those areas to ensure our clients can transition seamlessly to other agencies.
For resources in the absence of the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program, residents of both Mahoning and Trumbull counties may reach out to Mahoning Valley Pathways HUB at [email protected] or by calling 330-270-2855, ext. 136.
If you have further questions, please contact Jenna Wojdacz at [email protected] or by calling 614-886-8246.
Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies is a neighborhood outreach program for high-risk, pregnant people in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
In Ohio, African American women* are twice as likely to have a baby that is considered very low birth weight than the population in general. Even more disturbing, the infant mortality rate in Ohio in the African American community is twice the rate of that in the population in general, and three times that of white infants.
*Our Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program is informed by data collected by the Ohio Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which are non-inclusive of gender non-binary and transgender identities. While the word "women" is used here, we at Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio recognize that individuals of all genders are affected by infant mortality rates.
The focus of the program is to encourage early and consistent prenatal care.
Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies will link you to community-based medical and social support services that address your specific needs, including:
- Cribs for Kids
- GED training and testing programs
- Housing shelters for individuals and their families
- Medical insurance for pregnant individuals and their children
- Pediatricians
- Prenatal Care Providers
- Transportation to appointments
- Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

VIDEO This Is Health Care: Nina | Fighting Infant Mortality
About the video: Meet Nina, a community health worker in Planned Parenthood's Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program in Ohio. Nina’s mom was a teenage mom who didn’t have access to the resources she needed — which inspires Nina to make sure all moms and babies get the care they need to live healthy lives.
