PLANNED PARENTHOOD OFFERS FREE CONTRACEPTION
Boise, ID –Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest is offering free long-term contraception at its Boise and Twin Falls health centers. The average savings to the patient is $600 and the Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) can last up to 12 years.
Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest received a grant including name brand contraception intrauterine devices ParaGard® and Mirena®, as well as the implantable hormonal contraceptive Implanon®.
Long Active Reversible Contraception offers many benefits for women seeking to postpone or prevent pregnancy for three or more years. LARC devices are 99% effective, discreet, reversible, and do not require women to take a pill, put on a patch, or replace a ring.
ParaGuard® and Mirena® are IUC (intrauterine contraception) devices inserted into the uterus by a Clinician to prevent pregnancy. The Paraguard is hormone-free and both are considered among the most effective birth control methods. The ParaGuard® IUC can be left in place for up to 12 years, while Mirena® is effective for five years. Implanon® is inserted under the skin of the upper arm and releases the hormone progestin to prevent pregnancy up to three years.
LARC devices do not prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections. As with all contraceptive methods, there are possible side effects and women should consult a physician before using any pharmaceutical product.
Qualifying patients may receive a LARC device at no cost, but are responsible for office and exam expenses. Women interested in learning more about the LARC program should call the Planned Parenthood Boise health care center at 208-376-9300. The offer is available while supplies last.
