Press Release 10-05-11: Will You Stand Up for PPDE?
Women’s Health Under Attack:
Will You “Stand Up” for Planned Parenthood of Delaware?
(Wilmington, DE) Planned Parenthood of Delaware (PPDE) is looking for supporters of women’s sexual and reproductive health to invest in the “Stand Up” campaign. PPDE is currently half way through a Stand Up Campaign to support operations enabling Delawareans to continue to receive life saving cancer screenings, well woman services, HPV vaccine, contraception, and STD testing and treatment. A challenge grant was awarded through the Arronson Foundation to help motivate the community.
In an effort to thank loyal supporters, PPFA President Cecile Richards came to town for a private affair to talk about the issues and need for continued support for women’s healthcare and reproductive rights. She spoke eloquently about the challenges facing women’s reproductive services and the vital role that Planned Parenthood plays in women’s lives in the state.
“Planned Parenthood of Delaware is under an unprecedented attack,” said Nanci Hoffman, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Delaware. “The turbulent economy and political threats have put PPDE and our patients at risk. We must continue to offer Delawareans the essential healthcare services a healthy community desperately needs. We need your help. Will you Stand Up for Planned Parenthood of Delaware?”
The Stand Up campaign ends Friday, October 21, 2011 at the annual Chocolate Festival at the Hagley Soda House. For further information on the Stand Up Campaign or the Chocolate Festival, call 302-655-7232. Or to donate directly, visit www.ppdel.org.
Who are PPDE’s patients?
10,000 low and moderate income women and men from throughout the state. Nearly 72% of our patients are at or below 150% of the federal poverty level or the equivalent of $16,245 annual income for a single woman.
Why does PPDE matter?
- The goal of PPDE is to provide medical and education services to all women regardless of their ability to pay.
- Family planning programs are a good investment—for every dollar spent on family planning it saves $3.74 cents in taxpayer money.
- Medicaid only pays 50% of the cost of the medical care. PPDE funds the rest through fundraising and donations.
- PPDE is committed to protecting the reproductive rights of Delawareans.
What is PPDE?
The mission of PPDE is to ensure the right of all individuals to access the appropriate information and the services necessary to make and act on personal decisions related to their own reproduction, sexuality and health. Planned Parenthood provides family planning, gynecological services, abortion, cancer screening, STD testing and treatment, health education, and more. The agency serves all three counties, has operated in Delaware for 80 years, and serves 10,000 clients a year. For further information, check out www.ppdel.org.
