Niagara Falls, N.Y. – Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) is pleased to announce it has received a $18,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. These funds will support The Connection’s summer program for youth in Niagara Falls City, Making Summer Less of a Bummer. The youth sports and recreation program will be an exciting and creative opportunity for youth to explore recreational activities in the City of Niagara Falls with an anticipated reach of 700 youth. All programs are provided free of charge to underserved youth. Activities include hiking, biking, kayaking and more.

The Connection Recreation Program will help youth living in the City of Niagara Falls who lack access to adequate free sports and recreation activities, many of whom do not participate in 60 minutes of activity at least 1 day/week. The program will offer over 50 different recreational sessions encompassing at least nine different types of recreational activities throughout the City of Niagara Falls between July and September 2021.

The goal is to ensure an enriching and healthy environment for young people in Niagara Falls during the summer months and to expose them to various outdoor physical activities to which they would not typically have access. Please contact Lynne Neveu at The Connection with questions about the summer program at [email protected].

“We are grateful to the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund for Youth Sports and this opportunity to support the young people in Niagara Falls. After a most difficult year for young people without traditional socialization and activities, this program will provide sports sampling and free play and the opportunity to create healthy habits for lifelong health,” said PPCWNY President and CEO, Michelle Casey.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds were established at the Community Foundation to provide support to four areas that were important to Mr. Wilson: caregivers, community assets, design and access, and youth sports. Endowment funds, like these created to honor Mr. Wilson, are designed to grow over time and provide funding for charitable causes according to a client’s wishes.

Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) protects and provides high quality, affordable, non-judgmental reproductive health care; promotes responsible and healthy sexuality; advocates for access to comprehensive health care; and supports those affected by sexual violence. Each year, PPCWNY serves over 31,000 adults and teens throughout Central and Western New York.
