Our History

In 1963, members of the First United Methodist Church in Mission, led by the Reverend Bruce Galloway, discussed ways to improve people’s quality of life.  They worried about the area's poor communities and its impact on the environment.  There were no family planning services at the time in the Valley for low-income women, so the group contacted local ministers, community leaders and doctors to organize a new Planned Parenthood clinic.  On April 1, 1964, a clinic was opened in Mission.  During its first year of operation, the agency had 69 clients.

Today, over 21,000 men, women and teens get family planning services at Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County’s centers.
