Do you know what teens are saying about sex education? "Whether we're having sex or not, we need to be prepared and don't think that giving us information about sex and birth control will encourage us to have sex". Talking Back, What Teens Want Adults to Know about Teen Pregnancy from The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

In 2009, Arizona was reported as having the third highest teen pregnancy rate and the sixth highest teen birth rate nationally (Arizona Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2009). Are your district's health and sexual education policies and programs providing teens with the information they need?

We understand there are many competing priorities in the quest for excellence in education and we want to lend a hand. Planned Parenthood Arizona's Sexual Health and Responsible Education (SHARE) initiative can help you provide clear, consistent, age-appropriate and straightforward comprehensive sexual education that can protect Arizona youth.

SHARE Includes:

  • Assistance with the selection of a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum that aligns with National Sexuality Education Standards-Core Content and Skills, K-12
  • Resource support for teacher training
  • Technical support-coaching and curriculum mapping
  • Parent workshops

If you would like to talk to us about SHARE for your school or district, please email or call us at 520.784.5839

National Sexuality Education Standards: Core Content and Skills, K - 12
Published in the Journal of School Health, these standards provide clear and consistent guidance on the essential minimum core content for sexuality education that is developmentally and age-appropriate for students.

The standards are the result of a cooperative effort by the American Association of Health Education, the American School Health Association, the National Education Association Health Information Network, and the Society of State Leaders of Health and Physical Education, in coordination with the Future of Sex Education (FoSE) Initiative. Nearly 40 stakeholders including content experts, medical and public health professionals, teachers, sexuality educators, and young people developed the standards in a two-year process.

Why Support Comprehensive Sexuality Education?
