Education and Training

Since 1965, Planned Parenthood has been building healthy communities with the most sophisticated instrument in medicine: accurate information.

Our innovative health education programs teach young people to make healthy decisions, and train teachers, parents, professionals, and caregivers how to have honest discussions with the young people in their lives.

Our programs

Planned Parenthood provides an open door to teens who may not have a trusted adult to answer questions, and to the adults who may not have all the answers.

Hotlines: Confidential, real-time answers from trained health educators to questions about sexual behavior, reproductive health, birth control methods, sexually transmitted infections, and communicating with partners and parents.

Community Education and Outreach: Planned Parenthood partners with more than 100 community organizations, colleges, resource centers, and other diverse groups through tabling events and one-on-one visits. Additionally, a recently launched initiative aims to increase awareness of breast and cervical cancers within the Vietnamese community.

Peer Education: Local teens break the cycle of misinformation by talking openly, honestly, and accurately with friends and classmates about healthy relationships, contraception, sexuality, informed decision-making, and sexually transmitted infections.

Training for Professionals: Those who work with teens know that education and information are the best ways to prevent illness and unintended pregnancies. Our workshops teach youth-serving professionals to become a go-to resource for questions and behaviors about sexual health and sexuality.

Parent-Child Communication Workshop: Parents learn how to talk to their children about relationships and sexual behavior using messages based on each individual family’s values, as well as how to answer questions with the most up-to-date, medically accurate, and age-appropriate information.

Teen Life Skills: A multi-session workshop that teaches adolescents and young adults the life skills they need for success as they journey into adulthood. Topics include sexual health, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, gender issues and goal setting.
Offered only in San Bernardino.

Young Women’s Health Conference: An annual educational outreach event in San Bernardino that empowers hundreds of high school-aged young women with the tools and information they need to grow into healthy adults. Topics include body image, nutrition, pregnancy prevention, and healthy relationships.
