The Supreme Court set a new and dangerous precedent when it upheld the federal abortion ban without an exception to preserve a woman's health. While New York has long been the gold standard when it comes to women's health and safety, our state's abortion law needs updating. The Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act will modernize and update current New York State law by enshrining a woman's fundamental right to control her own reproductive health, including the decision about when and whether to have a child.
In times when we can't count on the federal courts to protect women's reproductive freedom, it will be vitally important to the women of New York to have a state law that can protect their reproductive health and rights.
