International Programs

Margaret Sanger Center International (MSCI) is the international arm of Planned Parenthood of New York City. MSCI promotes healthy sexuality, reproductive choice, and gender equity worldwide by:

Strengthening Local Partners

MSCI provides specialized training and tailored technical assistance to local groups so they can develop their own culturally sensitive education programs, clinical services, and advocacy. We work with diverse partners, such as youth associations, family planning organizations, women’s groups, HIV/AIDS prevention programs, government agencies, religious leaders, and traditional healers.

Making Global Connections

We act as a catalyst for global exchanges of information and solutions among developing countries and between countries in the Southern and Northern hemispheres. MSCI’s interactions with partners around the world inform and enrich PPNYC’s New York City-based clinical services, education, and advocacy.

MSCI promotes:

  • Comprehensive Sexuality Education, Including HIV Prevention. We collaborate with local groups to design sexuality education curricula, training manuals, and a broad array of appealing, accessible communications materials for youth and adults.

  • Gender Equity Perspective. We assist our partners in examining and redefining traditional gender roles that place both women and men at risk for a wide range of sexual and reproductive health problems.

  • Provider Training. We enhance the skills of family planning and reproductive health care providers so they can establish client-friendly services for youth and adults.

  • Organizational Development. We work closely with community-based agencies to help them develop program plans, and tools for monitoring and evaluation.

  • Strategic International Advocacy. We advocate in the United States and at the United Nations for progressive policies on sexual and reproductive health and rights in the regions where we work.

MSCI has produced resources that we make available to international organizations free of charge.  Look in the "International Publications" section of this website's Publications page to find out about these resources:

  • A Compendium of Worldwide Resource Materials to Prevent HIV among Youth

  • Scaling Up HIV Prevention Programs for Youth: The Essential Elements Framework in Action

  • Christian Family Life Education: A Guide for Teaching about Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health

MSCI has also created the online Steps Toolkit for monitoring and evaluating programs. Find out how your organization can take advantage of this cost-free, user-friendly, step-by-step tool to evaluate your programs online or offline!
