PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF NEW YORK CITY APPLAUDS GOVERNOR CUOMO’S COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE (4/12/12)
(New York, NY) – Today Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an Executive Order establishing a statewide Health Exchange that will help bring down the cost of health insurance for individuals, families, and small businesses. Ultimately this action will help millions of New Yorkers who are currently uninsured to afford coverage.
Joan Malin, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City, issued the following statement:
“I want to take this opportunity to applaud Governor Cuomo for taking the lead to establish a Health Exchange in New York. His leadership will surely improve accessibility to health insurance and make it affordable for those families and individuals who have – for too long – gone uninsured. The establishment of this exchange, which includes both private and public insurance programs, will go a long way toward reducing costs for New Yorkers.
As a health care provider, Planned Parenthood of New York City knows firsthand the struggles faced by those in need of affordable, quality care. By establishing the Health Benefit Exchange, Governor Cuomo has avoided a federally operated one-size-fits-all exchange that may not meet the needs of New Yorkers. Moreover, the Governor has paved the way for a competitive marketplace to bring down the cost of insurance for our clients. Again we commend the Governor for his commitment to making health care access and affordability a priority.”
