LETTER TO THE EDITOR, "THINKING AHEAD," BY JOAN MALIN, DAILY NEWS (2/29/08)
Manhattan: Columnist Bill Hammond conveniently ignores a crucial piece of information ("Abortion bill is a bitter pill," Feb. 26). Abortion is not, in fact, "plenty legal in New York, no matter what the Supreme Court does." If Roe vs. Wade fell tomorrow, current New York law would not protect a woman's ability to have an abortion if her health were endangered late in her pregnancy. The Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act would simply clarify our state law to incorporate the same protections currently guaranteed by Roe vs. Wade.
