Re “For Uninsured Young Adults, Do-It-Yourself Medical Care” (front page, Feb. 18):
While Gov. David A. Paterson’s proposal will provide relief for some young uninsured New Yorkers, our worsening economic situation and the growing numbers of unemployed mean that there are more and more underinsured and uninsured New Yorkers seeking services — and not all of them are young.
As one of New York City’s main safety net providers, we serve this population daily. We know firsthand the importance of New York State’s investment in health care services, especially when it comes to family planning. For every dollar spent on family planning services, four are saved in Medicaid spending.
Let’s continue to safeguard family planning financing, and ensure that women, men and teenagers have access to basic health care at a time when they need it more than ever.
