Birth Control Cri$is

New York (November 12, 2007) - Statement from Joan Malin, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City at Rally to Restore Affordable Birth Control to College Campuses:

Hello, I am Joan Malin, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City.  Thank you for coming today  -- your presence really shows just how important affordable birth control is to all of us!

Hasn't this administration done enough meddling in our personal lives?  And now -- to top it all off -- Congress has made birth control unaffordable for many women, increasing the price of a pill pack by four or five times and placing a very high burden on anyone with an already tight budget.

The crazy part is that Congress can fix this problem immediately  -- without cost to taxpayers! -- and Planned Parenthood is calling upon our members to do so.  Representative Joseph Crowley recently unveiled stand alone, bipartisan legislation to restore low priced birth control at college clinics.  Again, this solution will cost nothing, and would simply clarify that college health clinics and other safety net providers are eligible to purchase nominally priced birth control.

Representative Crowley, who is standing with us today, has been leading the fight on the hill for this issue for the past year and he is a real champion for us.  We thank him for his leadership and urge you to reach out to your representatives and ask them to support this important legislation.

I am now honored to introduce Congressman Joseph Crowley.
