The Art of Prevention

Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio's second annual "Art of Prevention" condom art show and fundraiser on Thursday, September 16 drew 100 people to The Blarney Bullpen and raised $8,000 to support local services and education programs.

Twenty local artists competed in the juried competition, including Arts Commission of Greater Toledo members, BGSU and University of Toledo students and graduates, and community artists. Artists each received 300 condoms and had six weeks to create their piece.

The evening’s first place winner was Crista Metzger with a flapper dress in pink, yellow and purple with a matching purse made from condom wrappers. The second place winner was Nicole Kenning who made Trusty the Dog – a dog complete with fur, tongue and leash; and Honorable Mention and the People’s Choice Award went to Erika Herzig who created a portrait of two orange fan tail fish on a blue and purple background.  Click here to see the winners!

The Art of Prevention’ focuses on the need for prevention — 1 in 4 teen girls is infected with an STI and teen pregnancy rates are on the rise after declining for nearly two decades both locally and nationally.
