Reproductive Rights Program
Standard Participants will gain an understanding of reproductive rights and their importance in a democratic society. They will also discover ways to protect those rights today and in the future.
Rationale Reproductive freedom - the fundamental right of every person to decide freely and responsibly when and whether to have a child - is a significant element of our individual liberties in the U.S. Unfortunately, many people do not understand the importance of these rights. Through education, individuals can become familiar with the history of reproductive freedom and the threats it faces today.
Performance Indicators As a result of Reproductive Rights Education, participants will:
- Understand the history of reproductive rights in the United States, including major Supreme Court rulings, state and federal legislation, and pro- and anti-choice movements
- Describe current threats to reproductive rights in the United States
- Realize the importance of reproductive rights in women's lives and in the context of a democratic society
- Identify ways to impact the future of reproductive rights
