Participants will gain an understanding of pregnancy, labor, and delivery

Rationale
Education can ease the fear that may be associated with the physical and emotional changes surrounding pregnancy, labor and delivery. Through education, individuals can learn the nutritional requirements and prenatal care required for a healthy pregnancy through the trimesters preceding birth, as well as the stages of labor and delivery.

Performance Indicators
As a result of Pregnancy, Labor, and Delivery education, participants will:

  • Understand how fertilization and implantation occur
  • Identify pregnancy testing methods available and the cost associated with obtaining them
  • Recognize physical signs and symptoms of pregnancy
  • Understand the nutritional and health care needs of the pregnant woman
  • Identify the changes that occur through the trimesters of pregnancy and the signs of labor
  • Understand stages of labor and delivery
