Dating Violence Program (for teens)
Standard Participants will demonstrate an understanding of healthy relationships so that they may better recognize those relationships that are unhealthy.
Rationale 1 in 3 teens will be involved in a relationship that is violent. Many teens often confuse violence as a sign of love and accept it as a part of the relationship. Education can help people understand the dynamics of violence in relationships and the components of a healthy relationship.
Performance Indicators As a result of Dating Violence Education, participants will:
Define dating violence and the forms that violence may take
- Understand the cycle of violence
- Explore the dynamics of power and control issues in violent relationships
- Recognize the behaviors that may indicate a potential for violence
- Understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships
- Identify available resources within the community that may assist one who is involved in a violent relationship
- Understand why someone may stay in a violent relationship
- Learn ways to end violent relationships and how to deal with the loss of a relationship
