Date Rape Education and Prevention Program



Standard
Participants will demonstrate an understanding of date rape and how to reduce the risk of its occurrence.

Rationale
78% of all reported rape victims knew their attacker. Date rape most often occurs between people who know one another. Education will help people become aware of the dynamics of sexual violence.

Performance Indicators
As a result of Date Rape Education and Prevention, participants will:

  • Understand the difference between consensual sex and rape
  • Explore the attitudes and the dynamics of power/control issues in acquaintance (date) rape
  • Recognize that date rape situations can be precipitated by the use of drugs or alcohol including date rape drugs
  • Understand the process and importance of reporting date rape to the proper authorities and seeking necessary medical care
  • Examine sexual stereotypes surrounding the perceptions of why date rape occurs
  • Understand the factors that may put someone at greater risk for date rape occurrence
