Communications Skills Program



Standard
Participants will recognize the various ways that we communicate with others and will learn effective communication techniques.

Rationale
We spend over 90% of our days communicating with others through verbal and non-verbal cues. The ability to communicate effectively is a skill that can be acquired through education. Open, honest, effective communication is basic to our overall health, sexual safety and a critical component in the ability to form and maintain relationships.

Performance Indicators
As a result of Communication Skills Education, participants will:

  • Define effective communication
  • Identify factors that influence effective communication
  • Examine our present habits and patterns of communication
  • Recognize basic communication styles
  • Recognize that individuals may communicate differently depending on the situation
  • Understand how effective communication can impact relationships
