Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program

Standard
Participants will demonstrate an understanding of child sexual abuse: prevention, recognition, and reporting.

Rationale
1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be victims of sexual abuse by age 18. Prevention is best provided through an understanding of what sexual abuse is, how to recognize it and how to properly report it. Positive communication with children about sexual issues is essential to their understanding and participation in prevention.

Performance Indicators
As a result of Child Sexual Abuse Education, participants will:

  • Identify the parts of the body, including genitals
  • Understand the importance of respecting and controlling their body, as well as the bodies of others
  • Describe the differences between "good / bad / secret touching" and ways to keep their bodies safe and healthy
  • Identify key adults with whom to talk when help or problem solving is needed
