Certified Rape Crisis Counselors

BE A VOLUNTEER
Sexual Assault Services of NAPP needs volunteers to serve as Certified Rape Crisis Counselors (CRCCs) for the 24 hour Sexual Assault hotline and accompaniment services. Sexual Assault Services welcomes mature applicants 18 years of age or older. We encourage participation of men as well as women in our program. No prior training or experience is required - just a desire to help.

The Sexual Assault CRCC volunteer program assures personal support and advocacy for victims and significant others of sexual assault and violence. Staff members and trained volunteer advocates support victims in the areas of medical needs, psychological support, police intervention and legal prosecution.

HOW TO GET STARTED
Ready to get started on being a member of the SAS of NAPP volunteer staff! If you are interested in becoming a Certified Rape Crisis Counselor, please contact the Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at (518) 825-6277 ext. 108 or stop by our office to pick up a volunteer packet. You will need to complete a volunteer application and return this to the Sexual Assault Services Coordinator at the SAS office in Plattsburgh, New York. Once your application has been reviewed, a pre-training interview will be scheduled. This provides you with the opportunity to explore the program with the Sexual Assault Services Coordinator and ask any questions that you may have. Once the interview process has been completed and you have been offered a volunteer opportunity you will be scheduled to attend a CRCC training program.

Volunteering can fit into your busy lifestyle. Our program allows volunteers to be a part of our mission and maintain balance within their personal life. Our volunteers are very important to us. SAS of NAPP thanks you for your interest in becoming a member of our program.

TRAINING
In order for our volunteer CRCCs to be well informed and ready to meet the needs of our clients, CRCC volunteers are required to complete a 30-hour training program. Participation in the program requires a pre-training interview and a commitment by the participant to volunteer after hours to provide hotline coverage and/or accompaniment services.

The volunteer CRCC training program is held several times a year and is held in alternating locations. Areas that the training is held in include Plattsburgh, Saranac Lake and Malone.
