Adult-Teen Relationships Program
Standard Participants will gain an awareness of adult-teen relationships and their impact.
Rationale Approximately 70% of all births among teenage females are caused by adult men and adult males infect the majority of teenage females infected with HIV and other STIs. These relationships frequently arise from unhealthy motivations and are often dangerous. Through education teens will recognize common misconceptions about relationships with adults, and gain and practice skills that will help them to have healthy and age-appropriate relationships.
Performance Indicators As a result of Adult-Teen Relationships Education, participants will:
- Identify reasons teens have or want relationships with adults
- Identify reasons adults have or want relationships with teens
- Identify potential consequences for teens who have relationships with adults
- Recognize common misconceptions teens have about relationships with adults
- Identify characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships
- Recognize sexually abusive and sexually coercive situations
- Demonstrate assertiveness and refusal skills
