During the "40 Days for Life" campaign, anti-choice picketers are planning to be outside our Plattsburgh health center from 7am-10pm. This anti-choice campaign begins September 22nd and continues through October 31st.

Throughout the year anti-choice protesters picket at our health centers in Plattsburgh, Watertown, and Lowville.  Their goal is to prevent access to the services Planned Parenthood provides. Harassment should never be a part of getting health services.

Questions you may have about this protest:

Q: Why are there protesters?
A: Protesters are here to block access to a range of services that Planned Parenthood offers.  They protest abortion services, our education programs, and even preventative care like the HPV vaccine.  They believe that their presence will be the driving force in closing Planned Parenthood health centers, but we're determined to be here as long as our communities need us.

Q: I have a health appointment, but the protesters make me uncomfortable, what do I do?
A: We understand that it can be unnerving to approach our health center when protesters are present.  Our Plattsburgh health center is on private property, protesters are not allowed on our property. They are also not allowed to block our driveway entrance.  If you feel uncomfortable, please feel free to park in our parking lot behind our center and use our back door. We also often have patient escorts available at our front entrance.  These volunteers wear bright orange vests with the word "Escort" on the front an the back.  Their job is to walk with you past the protesters on the way to your appointment.

Q: I want to serve as an escort, what do I need to do?
A: Patient escorts are some of our most valuable and important volunteers.  Above all else, they must remain calm and keep in mind their mission to help patients no matter what the anti-choice protesters say or do. Patient escorts typically serve on Thursday mornings, but during "40 Days for Life" escorts are needed throughout the week.  Please call 561-0605 if you're interested in being a patient escort and to learn more of what it takes.

Q: I've heard of the Pledge-a-Protester campaign, what is it?
A: Pledge-a-protester is a way for Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York to turn a negative into a positive.  Supporters can make a pledge of any amount the feel comfortable for every protester present.  You can choose to participate during the "40 Days" campaign or throughout the year.  Either way, we'll send you a notice to let you know what your pledge totals.  If you would like more information, please call 561-0605.
