(Hawthorne, NY) – Today, Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) denounced a proposed regulation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that will allow health care providers to deny patients needed information about their health care.  The regulation will allow institutions to deny women some of the most effective forms of birth control and withhold information from patients about their contraceptive options.

Reina Schiffrin, President/CEO, Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) issued the following statement:

“Once again, the Bush Administration is playing politics with women’s health care decisions. This rule change allows personal agendas to take precedence over women’s health care, jeopardizing communication between health care providers and patients, and thus denying women critical information. At a time when more and more families are uninsured, we are finding our health care system in crisis and the president taking steps to deny access to basic care. Issuing this change is disgraceful to the American women.”
