Profile
Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) is your local provider of reproductive health care, family planning services and educational programs.
A Mission of PreventionAt the heart of our mission is prevention—of unplanned pregnancies, of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, and of risky attitudes and behaviors. The majority of our services are all about prevention, such as free prenatal care, counseling on the latest contraceptive methods, well-woman exams for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer, information for families on how to talk about sex and sexuality, and the knowledge and skills young people need to stay safe and healthy.
So many of our patients turn to PPNC because their other options are limited: they are young, poor and have no health insurance. Some are people whose first language is not English. At Planned Parenthood, they find culturally-sensitive services and staff, flexible hours, a sliding-fee scale, the latest technology, clinicians who spend time with clients and confidential care.
Education & Advocacy
For community members who participate in our educational programs, they find real, honest and accurate information, instead of the kinds of false and misleading statements that often make up abstinence-only curricula. Our workshops promote family communication and help young people make healthy and responsible decisions.
Finally, Planned Parenthood believes that women are moral decision-makers, capable of choosing the course of their reproductive lives. Through our advocacy efforts, we work to ensure that decisions about childbearing are private and personal ones made by a woman in consultation with her family and her doctor. Our advocacy work also centers around preserving access to family planning and reproductive health care.
