Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
Recognizing 34 Years of Safe & Legal Abortion
On January 18, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County joined together with Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic and 45 other coalition partners to host Celebrate Choice: An Evening of Film & Conversation in recognition of the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
More than 100 supporters gathered at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington for a private screening of I Had An Abortion, which features 10 women who candidly describe experiences spanning seven decades, from the years before Roe v. Wade to the present day. The audience then had the opportunity to discuss the film with its creators, Jennifer Baumgardner and Gillian Aldrich.
To highlight the current threats to Roe, guests also signed postcards urging the President and members of Congress to repeal the Global Gag Rule and the Hyde Amendment.
Unfortunately, 34 years after the historic Supreme Court decision, the struggle to protect women's health and safety continues. For example, the Bush administration's recent appointment of anti-birth control extremist Eric Keroack to oversee the nation's family planning program for low-income Americans is a prime example of their many missteps on women's health issues.
