April is STD Awareness Month

Did you know that more than half of all people will contract a sexually transmitted disease (STD) sometime in their life? Or that one in two sexually active people will contract an STD by the age of 25? Or how about the fact that less than half of adults between the ages of 18 to 44 have ever been tested for an STD other than HIV/AIDS?

This April, during National STD Awareness Month, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County is urging everyone, no matter their age, race or gender, to come in to one of our three health centers for a “Peace of Mind” visit. We’ll provide you with quick and easy testing for the full range of sexually transmitted diseases, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS. A counselor will also talk to you about the best ways to prevent STDs and stay safe and healthy.

As always, all of Planned Parenthood’s services are confidential and offered on a sliding fee scale.

So this April, come in to PPNC—for your own “peace of mind.” Many STDs have no physical symptoms, so you could have contracted one and not even know it. Everyone who is sexually active should be tested sooner rather than later. Prompt treatment now can prevent major medical problems from developing in the future.
