October is Let’s Talk Month, a community campaign to encourage parents and families to talk together about sexuality and their family's values, and to support them in building and maintaining healthy family connections. This year we are focusing on the importance of family meals to encourage communication and connection.
Planned Parenthood’s Let’s Talk Month Tablemat is a tool to help get mealtime conversations started. It is:
- Fun and interactive – It gets your family talking!
- For all ages – Pre-schoolers to teenagers to parents to grandparents.
- For all families – It helps you talk about your own family’s values.
- Bilingual – It’s a great tool for reading and learning both English and Spanish.
- Evidence-based – Research shows that when families share a meal 3 times a week (or more), children feel a sense of connection in the family. This feeling of being connected actually motivates them to make healthier choices as they grow!!! Click here for more on the importance of family meals.
- Can be used over and over – Conversations will be different day-to-day and year-to-year.
