After a Sexual Assault
- Go to a safe place.
- Call a friend or family member that you trust.
- Try not to wash, douche, brush your teeth, change clothing or make any changes to the scene of the crime before going to the hospital or contacting police.
- Go to a hospital, Planned Parenthood health center or your own doctor as soon as possible for treatment of injuries, collection of evidence and to ease any fears about pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections. Bring a change of clothing with you.
Reporting the crime to the police is your choice. If you are unsure about reporting, it is still advisable to seek medical evaluation. A doctor will examine you and collect evidence.
When you are calm, it is helpful to write down the details of the assault so that you will remember more for future legal proceedings.
