A recent study showed that long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) are the most effective methods of birth control. LARCs, including the copper ParaGard IUD and the hormonal Mirena IUD, the hormonal contraceptive implant (shown left), and hormonal injections can prevent unwanted pregnancy up to 20 times better than birth control pills, patches and vaginal rings.
A LARC may be right for you. They are a great option for women who may want to become pregnant in the future, but only after achieving a goal like finishing school or starting a career. And despite popular misconceptions, IUDs are safe and highly effective for women who have never been pregnant.
