Free Birth Control & Annual Exams



Take Charge is a five year program begun in 2001 that provides free reproductive health and family planning services to teens, men and women in order to prevent unintended pregnancies.

To qualify, you must:
  • Have income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty level. For example: $19,600 for a single person and $40,000 a year for a family of four. (see chart below)

  • Be a U.S. citizen or have a green card
  • Be a resident of Washington State
  • If you are a high school or college student, Take Charge requires parent income unless there are issues of confidentiality

    FREE family planning services include:

  • Family planning education, counseling and risk reduction
  • HIV and STI testing when directly related to family planning services
  • Pregnancy testing
  • All birth control methods approved by FDA, including birth control pills, Depo-Provera, IUDs including Mirena, The Patch, diaphragms and emergency contraception
  • Non-prescription products like male and female condoms, contraceptive gels, foam, film, cream and suppositories
  • Sterilization - vasectomy and tubal ligation
  • Annual exam
  • If you qualify, you pay nothing for birth control methods and family planning services covered under the Take Charge program. Each visit must be for family planning services.
