Multi-Session Programs

A Planned Parenthood of Maryland multi-session education series consists of three or more (usually 6-10) one hour sessions over several days or weeks.

Our staff are trained to conduct multi-session series using the following curricula:

Responsible Males - a pregnancy and STI prevention curriculum for males

This program is designed to promote self-knowledge and responsibility in young males as they relate to their sexual health. The curriculum is research-based and takes students through the transtheoretical model of behavior change. Responsible Males groups change attitudes using cutting edge educational and social psychological methods. This curriculum addresses masculinity and its impact on male decision making, communication and relationships.

Circle of Friends - a pregnancy and STI prevention curriculum for females
This program was designed specifically to meet the needs of females. Teen girls tend to make sexual decisions in the heat of the moment rather than planning them in advance. Research on "hot cognition" helps us understand developing healthier sexual judgments. Teaching "break-up skills" helps girls end unhealthy relationships to make way for healthier ones. By looking at a new form of "the sexual bases," girls map out their personal boundaries based on their own values and knowledge.

Family Life Education Series - the Baltimore Curriculum Project model
Currently taught in 7 public schools across Baltimore, this series was designed for students in 4th-8th grade.  Topics are tailored to each grade level to be age-appropriate and comprehensive:  for example, the curriculum covers Anatomy and Puberty with younger students, and then Abstinence and STIs for older students.  Standards are based on the BCPSS Health curriculum.

Unequal Partners: Teaching About Power and Consent in Adult-Teen and Other Relationships
Developed to address the growing trend of adult-teen relationships, Unequal Partners examines the qualities, characteristics and possible negative outcomes of this type of relationship, identifies warning signals that the relationship might be deteriorating, and identifies resources and ways to end an unhealthy relationship. It includes a self-assessment and one session exclusively for males.

The NEW Positive Images: Teaching Abstinence, Contraception, and Sexual Health
An excellent supplemental resource for middle school and high school educators, as well as, leaders in community based organization. This manual focuses on preventing unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections via contraceptive education.

Abstinence Pick and Choose Activities for Grades 7-12
This workbook provides teachers with 39 classroom activities that promote sexual abstinence as a viable option for adolescents. Organized into four sections, the workbook focuses on self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, decision-making skills, and life planning. Each activity conveys a positive message about abstinence, sexuality, and personal control.

Streetwise to Sex-Wise: Sexuality Education for High-Risk Youth
This curriculum explores human sexuality and sexual health concerns of particular importance to high-risk youth. Lessons include hands-on activities that focus on skill building, communication, attitudes and values. S2S contains two age-appropriate series- teens aged 9-14 and teens aged 14-19.

Active Parenting of Teens For parents of teens and pre-teens
This program takes a practical approach to dealing with the unique challenges of raising teens. Specifically, parents learn to sharpen communication skills and parenting techniques necessary to manage the influence drugs, violence, and sexuality has on their teen.
