Amber Eisenmann is the Vice President of Education & Training for Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM). She earned a bachelorís degree in peace studies at Earlham College and a masterís degree in counseling at Johns Hopkins University. She has worked for PPM for over 14 years, providing education and training in health centers, schools and community agencies. Amber seeks to ensure that youth and adults have access to accurate sexuality information and high quality reproductive health care. She has facilitated hundreds of dynamic trainings for human service professionals on a wide range of topics. Amber is a member of the Baltimore County School Health Council, the Baltimore City Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force, the Johns Hopkins Center for Adolescent Health Advisory Board, and the sex, etc. Sexual Health Review Board.
Vanessa Geffrard is the Director of Education and Training for Planned Parenthood of Maryland. She earned a bachelorís degree in community health at University of Maryland, College Park and a masterís degree in Public Health from Morgan State University. Her journey into the health and policy field started when she worked on the International Youth Leadership Council with Advocates for Youth, where she advocated and lobbied on behalf of adolescent reproductive health. While in graduate school Vanessa focused on health policy, specifically researching the positive impact of web-based interventions as they relate to decreasing the risk of HIV/AIDS among young women of color. Vanessa has served the role of health educator, researcher, case manager and has conducted many trainings on various topics from Nigeria to California! Vanessa wants young people to have the proper tools to live healthy lives and feel empowered through proper knowledge, education, and resources. In her free time, Vanessa is a Girl Scout troop leader and owns a photography business.
Tiaira Harris is the Data Collector for Planned Parenthood of Maryland. She is a recent graduate of The University of Maryland College Park c/o 2011. She majored in Womenís Studies with a concentration in Intersectionality (the sociological theory that examines the relationships of socially constructed categories i.e. race, class and gender, and the implications of these intersections), Black Sexual Politics, and Feminist Theory. Tiaira has interned in D.C. with HIPS using a harm reduction model to assist female, male, and transgender sex workers in living a healthy and safe life. Eventually, Tiaira took the experience at HIPS to go onto to lead discussion as a Teaching Assistant in a class titled; ďSpecial Topics in African American Studies: Sex WorkĒ. Tiaira is an active member of Womenís Studies fraternity, Iota Iota Iota. Tiaira, also a poet and musician, is a Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Audre Lorde enthusiast. In her free time she walks her overly energetic puppy, Gouda, named for Tiairaís absolute devotion to cheese.
Lindsay Roemer is a Community Health Educator and Trainer for Planned Parenthood of Maryland. She earned a bachelorís degree in Sociology from Villanova University in 2003, as well as minors in both Psychology and Spanish. Shortly thereafter she served as an Americorps*NCCC volunteer before working as a Program Manager of Middle and High Schools for Best Buddies of Maryland. Lindsay has worked for PPM for over 4 years, beginning with a year and a half as an HCA in the Towson health center before transferring into the Education and Training Department in August of 2009. She currently provides education and training to schools and community agencies throughout Central Maryland and is dedicated to sharing the most up to date and accurate reproductive health information possible.
Jodie Zisow is an Educator and Trainer at Planned Parenthood of Maryland. She graduated from Goucher College with a BA in international and intercultural studies and a minor in Spanish, and studied in Mexico City at UNAM for a semester. She worked previously as part of a team to help make PPM Health Centers more welcoming and accessible for patients with limited English proficiency. After several years teaching Spanish in a Baltimore city high school, she is back at PPM providing fact-based, thought-provoking classes for young people and trainings for professionals. She believes in the power of participatory education to empower people of all ages with the tools they need to live healthier lives.
Lisa Wallace is the Planned Parenthood of Maryland Eastern Shore Community Educator and Trainer. She has been employed in this position since 2007, educating and training the people of Caroline County. She is a 2004 graduate of The University of Baltimore where she majored in Psychology and minored in Liberal Arts. Prior to Planned Parenthood, Lisa was employed by the Caroline County Health Department as a Juvenile Drug Court Therapist. She has worked with children and teenagers for over 15 years. In 2010 she won ďProgram of the YearĒ for the Caroline County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. She is currently on the Advisory Board for Recreation and Parks, the Caroline County Health Departmentís Wellness Program, and she is a member of the Caroline County Drug and Alcohol Coalition. Lisa has extensive training in Sexual Reproductive Health and finds it extremely rewarding to educate youth on the Eastern Shore. In her spare time, she owns and operates her own bridal shop and is planning to pursue her MSW at Salisbury University.
Rashaad Banks is an Educator and Trainer at Planned Parenthood of Maryland. He graduated with a BA in English from Shippensburg University. Rashaad has worked in various capacities within the past few years; working in Higher Ed at Penn State University as a Residence Life Coordinator and as an intern for a HIV not-for-profit organization. Most recently Rashaad worked at the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York as a Projects Manager for the LGBTA program, providing educational programs, outreach events, and HIV/STI testing in upstate New York. Rashaad has always had a passion for presenting health education topics in an entertaining and informative way; and believes that education is essential for individuals to live healthy lives. Rashaad enjoys making others laugh, shopping, trying new recipes, and has an unhealthy obsession with Judge Judy.
The only guy on the football and the chess team in school, Josh Powell's eclectic interests continued at UC Berkeley where he attempted to major in everything until a threatening letter from the Dean forced him to pick a specialization. Since then he has pursued a varied career including instruction for kids and adults from those with learning disabilities up to Gifted and Talented education; social services primarily investigating hotline allegations of abuse and neglect with Child Protective Services; a brief stint doing clinical work at UCSF Medical Center; and helping underserved populations secure quality medical care at the community institution Berkeley Free Clinic. After spending a year or so bumming around the world burning through money earned from a successful run on Jeopardy!, Josh moved across the country when given the opportunity to join the POWERThroughChoices pilot program, which aims to help vulnerable youth in out-of-home care make responsible decisions about their sexual health. He spends his free time working through the canon of Western Lit and trying to get his golf handicap down to scratch. He is in no danger of needing replacement goals anytime soon.
Ettie Chauin is a Community Health Educator at PPM. She earned her Bachelorís degree In Theatre Studies from Towson University in 2009, and then went on to earn her Masterís degree in Human Sexuality Education from Widener University in 2011. During her graduate studies she interned at Turn Around, Inc. a domestic violence and sexual assault center. She provided education to individuals of all ages on topics relating to healthy relationships and sexual abuse prevention. Ettie is particularly passionate about providing sexual health education to individuals with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders.
