Volunteers and Interns

Play a vital role in advancing PPMM's Mission! As a volunteer or intern, you will help us provide a higher level of service that would not be possible without your help. You can volunteer in health services, public affairs, fundraising, or community outreach. Take action and make a difference. Help others by donating your time and skills.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • In the Health Centers - Volunteer opportunities in the health centers include clinic assistant, translator, file clerk, and clinic escort.
  • Public Affairs - Volunteers solicit support from legislators and public officials, participate in grass roots advocacy activities and voter registration campaigns, conduct research, track local media and serve as representative spokespersons in the community.
  • Fundraising - Volunteers help with the annual fundraising campaign, plan and participate in special events, and assist with donor cultivation.
  • Community Outreach - Volunteers represent PPMM at important local community functions, offer program support, collect relevant community information and provide childcare during teen support groups. In the Santa Clara County Region volunteers also work as Information/Referral Line Counselors.

Volunteer and Intern Commitment and Availability Requirements:

  • We have various one-time or on-call opportunities in most areas.
  • Time commitments for volunteer opportunities in Public Affairs, Community Services and other program departments vary.
  • We ask health center and Facts of Life Line volunteers to commit to approximately 4 hours a week for at least 6 months. Evening and weekend opportunities are limited - see clinic hours for more information.

The Volunteer or Internship Process

All volunteers are asked to complete a volunteer/intern application (Download PPMM Volunteer Application). Agency orientation is recommended. Depending on PPMM's needs, volunteers may be placed immediately in an administrative role. Volunteers and interns wanting to do outreach, counseling or have other client contact may be asked to work in a clinic or other site performing administrative duties until the next agency training or until their supervisor feels they have demonstrated sufficient commitment to move into a more responsible role.

Forms & Immunizations

All volunteers and interns must fill out an application, as well as read and sign forms pertaining to various PPMM policies. Clinic volunteers and interns that will have client contact must, before beginning at the clinic, show proof rubella immunization and show that they have received TB immunization within 6 months. To work with clients, volunteers and interns must be free of TB. Licensed volunteers may be asked to provide proof of Hepatitis B vaccination.
