Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing & Treatment

Our Services

Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing & Treatment

We can now screen for the most common bacterial sexually transmitted diseases--gonorrhea and chlamydia--using a urine sample. If this test indicates infection, we will examine you to determine the extent of the infection and to see whether other infections are also present. Then we will provide you with treatment and explain how your partner(s) can be treated. Screening is only for people who do not have symptoms.

We offer HIV counseling and testing at all our clinics. HIV testing can be by blood or urine. Testing for syphilis is only by a blood test. There is now a good blood test for herpes, but it is not covered by Medi-Cal or FPACT, so you will need to pay for this test.

If you are having symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease or vaginal infection, such as an unusual discharge or odor, burning or itching, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, pain when having sex, sores, bumps, or blisters, we will need to examine you in the clinic to find out the source of the problem and determine the right treatment. In some cases we can begin treatment based on what we see on exam. Other times, we will need to wait for the test results.

Available at all clinics.

HIV Testing

Counseling and anonymous (without a name) or confidential (private) testing for HIV is provided by trained staff who are sensitive to your needs and concerns. You will return to the clinic for the results and follow-up counseling.

Available at all clinics.
