STD Infection Rates:

Monterey County: According to data reported by the California Department of Health Services, the average rate of chlamydia cases in Monterey County per 100,000 persons was 278.06 in 2000-2002, below the statewide average rate of 291.09.

The County Health Status Profiles 2004 report from the California Department of Health Services ranked Monterey County 19th of the 58 counties for incidence of AIDS among residents aged 13 and older. The three-year average number of AIDS cases per 100,000 county residents from 2000-2002 was 8.66, compared to the statewide average of 15.23.

Santa Cruz: According to data reported by the California Department of Health Services, the average rate of chlamydia cases in Santa Cruz County per 100,000 persons was 206.79 in 2000-2002, below the statewide average of 291.09. The rate for syphilis cases during that period was 0.50 per 100,000, compared to 1.81 statewide. Data from the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency indicate that reported cases of gonorrhea in the county increased by over 8% between 2000 and 2002.

The County Health Status Profiles 2004 report from the California Department of Health Services ranked Santa Cruz County 24th of the 58 counties for the incidence of AIDS among residents aged 13 and older. The three-year average number of AIDS cases per 100,000 county residents from 200-2002 was 7.74, compared to the statewide average of 15.23.

In Monterey County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Sexuality Education curriculum is in approximately 60% of the schools in the county, and this county has an estimated 85-90% compliance with state laws regarding sexuality education.

In Santa Cruz County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Sexuality Education curriculum is in approximately 40% of the schools in the county. Santa Cruz county is estimated to also have an 85-90% compliance with state laws regarding sexuality education.

History of Planned Parenthood in the Coastal Region:

The coastal region is made of up Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. Within the two counties we have 6 clinics, two in Santa Cruz County and four in Monterey County. Our Westside, Watsonville, Salinas, and Seaside locations have been operating Planned Parenthood clinics for 25-30 years.

The Greenfield and King City clinics have been operating Planned Parenthood clinics for 10-12 years. Both Monterey and Santa Cruz county clinics merged with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte approximately 10 years ago, and now make up the coastal region which is headquartered in Salinas.
