At Planned Parenthood, we believe that sexual health is essential to every personís total well-being, and that parents and other trusted caregivers should be the primary sexuality educators of their children. Young people need age-appropriate access to accurate and comprehensive information in order to make responsible and safe choices. Our goal is to normalize the conversation around sex and sexuality so that parents and youth feel comfortable talking with one another about sexual health.
Our affordable Let's Be Honest: Communication in Families that Keeps Kids Healthy parent education program helps parents or other caring adults gain information and resources which empower them to be successful in their role as the primary sexuality educators of their children. In addition, our Seamos Honestos: Comunicacion entre Familia que Mantiene Nuestros Hijos Saludables parent education program is offered in Western and Eastern Massachusetts and supports Latino parents in having open and ongoing conversations with their youth about a range of sexuality topics. We understand that talking with youth about sex isn't always easy. That's why all of our workshops are taught by experienced Planned Parenthood educators who provide the education and skills necessary to build an environment of trust and comfort when talking with children about sex and sexuality.
Workshops include such topics as:
- Clarifying values and practicing communication skills
- Refreshing knowledge of reproductive anatomy, physiology, and puberty
- Promoting healthy relationships and self-esteem
- Understanding sexually transmitted diseases
- Managing peer pressure and media influences
