About Your Appointment

Scheduling an Appointment

No appointment is needed to receive a pregnancy test and/or emergency contraception.

Other appointments can usually be scheduled within one or two days.

Schedule your appointment for a time when you will not be having your period (unless you are having an IUD inserted).  Menstrual flow makes it difficult to diagnose problems.

Prior to the Appointment

Do not have vaginal intercourse or insert anything into your vagina for 24-48 hours prior to your appointment.

Be prepared to answer questions about your medical history including:

  • Do you have any unusual genital pain, itching, or discharge?
  • What type of contraception do you use?
  • Do you feel any pain during sex?
  • When was your last period?
  • How often do you have periods?
  • How long do your periods last?

Payment

Payment for services and contraceptive supplies is expected at the time of service.  Planned Parenthood of Kentucky accepts most public and private insurances, cash, credit/debit cards, and checks.  If patients are uninsured or their health insurance does not include gynecologic or family planning services as a covered benefit, they may be eligible to receive services and contraceptive supplies at PPKY's Louisville and Bluegrass Health Centers at no cost or reduced cost based on his/her income.  An income assessment is performed to determine eligibility.
